Disaster Human Services Workshop Series

From Hurricane Katrina to Paradise Wildfires, Exploring Themes in Disaster Human Services

The Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response (OHSEPR) is sponsoring the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (The Academies) to host an inaugural workshop series, “From Hurricane Katrina to Paradise Wildfires, Exploring Themes in Disaster Human Services.”

The Academies will host three workshops where subject matter experts will discuss ongoing challenges, promising practices, and potential opportunities since Hurricane Katrina to improve the coordinated delivery and restoration of human services following federally declared major natural disasters.

Workshop Schedule

Each two-day workshop will discuss one of the following three topics:

  • Children and youth in disasters - June 2-3, 2020
  • Disaster-displaced populations - July 1-2, 2020
  • Data and information sharing for disaster human services - August 18-19, 2020

These workshops will be held at The Academies in Washington, D.C. and will include opportunities for online participation.
