Human Services Research Partnership: U.S. Virgin Islands

2014-2019

The Human Services Research Partnership of the U.S. Virgin Islands (VI) explored issues related to social service needs and public welfare systems in the territory. This cooperative agreement supported partnerships among researchers, local governments, and community-based organizations to define and evaluate research questions relevant to low-income people in the U.S. Virgin Islands and to both the Head Start and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs.

This project established an environmental scan of Head Start services and established partnerships with early education and TANF researchers to develop quality improvement evaluations and to establish a participatory science approach. The project addressed questions that could improve understanding of the service needs, policies, and promising approaches within ACF programs to improve the quality of life in the region.
