Introduction
Share documents that help child care licensing staff in your state or territory make decisions. The information you share will inform the Understanding The Role of Licensing in Early Care and Education (TRLECE) project, funded by the Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) in partnership with the Office of Child Care.
The TRLECE project is identifying and addressing gaps in knowledge about how key features of the licensing system in child care and early education (CCEE) are related to CCEE quality and outcomes for children, families, and constituents (e.g., providers, licensing agencies).
One of the project activities is to create public state/territory licensing profiles that summarize key features of state/territory CCEE licensing systems, including administrative practices of monitoring and enforcement. We will review publicly available information and are searching for materials that help licensing staff interpret licensing regulations, determine provider compliance with regulations, and decide what to do when they observe violations. We invite you to share state/territory guides or relevant documents with us.
Examples include:
- Interpretive guides for state/territory CCEE licensing regulations;
- Documents or webpages that explain how licensing staff assess provider compliance of regulations and actions licensing staff should take when there is a violation; and
- Documents providing guidance about determining enforcement actions.
Please send all materials, along with your contact information, via email to TRLECE@childtrends.org by August 2023.
