Current Approaches: Current Approaches to Addressing Intimate Partner Violence in Healthy Relationship Programs

Publication Date: May 10, 2016
Current as of:

Introduction

This paper describes current approaches used by healthy relationship programs recently funded by the Administration for Children and Families to address intimate partner violence (IPV) and teen dating violence (TDV). This summary does not describe best practices, but will help lay the foundation for activities in the Responding to Intimate Violence in Relationship programs (RIViR) project.

It synthesizes information on:

  • IPV/TDV education included in healthy relationship curricula,
  • domestic violence protocols used by programs,
  • collaborations between healthy relationship and domestic violence programs,
  • IPV/TDV training for program staff,
  • assessments used to identify participants experiencing IPV/TDV,
  • programs’ responses to participants’ experience of IPV/TDV, and
  • the types of technical assistance programs receive.

This is the second in a series of papers from the RIViR project, which aims to understand how to best identify and address IPV in the context of healthy relationship programming.
