Introduction and Purpose
Child care and early education (CCEE) licensing plays a key role in the set of services for young children and their families. Licensing operations vary greatly between states and territories. The state and territory CCEE Licensing Information Hub describes characteristics of CCEE licensing in every state and territory, using data from 2017 - 2023.
The purpose of the Licensing Information Hub is to help licensing staff, policy makers, researchers, federal technical assistance providers, and others see key information about CCEE licensing across the nation and within each state/territory.
The information can be viewed in two ways:
- The Licensing Data Explorer tab presents data across states and territories for various characteristics of CCEE licensing. You may also explore data across a few states and territories.
- The State Profiles tab provides a detailed description for one state or territory.
You can learn more about the Licensing Information Hub and download an Excel file containing each data element on the About the Data tab. The Related Resources tab includes links to other sources of information about licensing, such as the National Database of Child Care Licensing Regulations Database.
States and territories may use different language to describe their licensing approach. The Glossary tab explains how we defined terms in this Database.
Note: The Database is optimized for use on a laptop or tablet.
