Chad Sawyer
Regional Administrator, Region 3
Chad Sawyer serves as the regional administrator (RA) for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in Region 3, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and seven federally recognized tribal nations.
As RA, Sawyer is responsible for leading ACF’s strategic initiatives and priorities and facilitating collaboration across ACF programs as well as other federal agencies, state and local governments, non-profit and faith-based organizations, and applicable stakeholders. Sawyer has over 25 years of experience in the human services field, working with children, youth, families, and communities both domestically and internationally.
Previously, Sawyer worked in two ACF program offices—the Office of Child Support Services and Office of Community Services. Sawyer led modernization projects to automate and streamline administrative procedures, managed a work group of state program directors to develop performance measures, drafted regulations and legislative proposals to advance program goals and outcomes, and served as subject matter expert providing guidance and innovative training and technical assistance. Additionally, Sawyer has experience in community organizing, juvenile justice, education, research, and mental health. Over his career, Sawyer’s work has received several awards and recognitions.
Sawyer earned a B.A. in English and Sociology from Emory University and a M.S.W from University of Maryland School of Social Work. He served in AmeriCorps in Atlanta and Peace Corps in Vanuatu and was a 2007-2009 Sargent Shriver Peaceworker Fellow. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
