Dear Colleague,

ORR is pleased to announce the launch of the ORR Monitoring Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to establish a comprehensive system of monitoring for all ORR funded programs. This initiative is focused on identifying best practices, developing protocols that will facilitate overall efficiencies in service delivery, and enhancing internal and external coordination with our grantees and partners.

In the beginning of FY 2016, ORR conducted a review of our current monitoring procedures in order to develop uniform protocols for all ORR monitoring activities. By creating uniform standards, ORR staff and partners will be able to make better-informed decisions about the best use of resources, identify operational strengths and weaknesses, develop and replicate best practices, and develop a stronger culture of continuous learning and improvement.

ORR has increased its monitoring capacity with additional staff support. The additional staff support will assist ORR in achieving the goal of ensuring that the majority of Refugee Resettlement Programs are monitored at least once every three years, that shelter grantees in the Unaccompanied Children Program are monitored at least once every two years, and that programs’ technical assistance needs are met. ORR will also enhance monitoring scheduling and planning by coordinating with our federal, state, and local partners and grantees on an ongoing basis.

We believe that the ORR Monitoring Initiative will strengthen the effectiveness of ORR’s work on behalf of all the populations we serve. Questions about the ORR Monitoring Initiative should be directed to Laura White at telephone: (202) 401-4849 or email: laura.white@acf.hhs.gov.

Sincerely,
Bob Carey
