Assistant Secretary Lynn A. Johnson Welcomes the National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Children & Youth in the United States
Assistant Secretary Lynn A. Johnson joined HHS Deputy Secretary Eric D. Hargan to welcome the representative members of the National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Children and Youth in the United States to their first public meeting today. DOJ Deputy Chief of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Alexandra R. Gelber, also provided welcoming remarks.
The members gathered in Washington, DC to begin their work to advise the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Attorney General on strengthening the nation’s response to trafficking. We heard from the Committee members whose diverse experiences provide balanced points of view to carry out the duties of the Committee. Learn more about the representative members.
The Committee also heard from members of the public and three panels representing perspectives from law enforcement, researchers, service providers, and practitioners. These discussions will inform the Committee's first task to recommend best practices for States to follow in combating the sex trafficking of children and youth based on multidisciplinary research and promising, evidence-based models and programs.
