OTIP Accepting Applications for Human Trafficking Leadership Class 8

February 13, 2023

The Office on Trafficking in Persons’ (OTIP) National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center (NHTTAC) is seeking emerging leaders living in the North Central Great Lakes Region of the United States (including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin) for a fellowship that will:

  • Build your professional network through work with other individuals who support people who have experienced human trafficking and those with increased risk factors for trafficking.
  • Expand your leadership skills by creating opportunities to inform and improve services for persons with a lived experience of trafficking.

The 12 fellows in Class 8 of the Human Trafficking Leadership Academy (HTLA) will work together to address the following project question:

What innovative, effective, and safe outreach and engagement strategies should communities, schools, and organizations implement to increase youth (ages 14 to 24) awareness and promote their resilience against online harassment and abuse related to human trafficking?

To qualify for this fellowship, you must:

  1. Have lived experience in human trafficking or be an allied professional working to address trafficking and related issues that impact youth.
  2. Reside in the North Central Great Lakes Region of the United States (includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin).

U.S. citizens and noncitizens authorized to work in the United States are encouraged to apply.

Hybrid Fellowship

OTIP is committed to the safety and well-being of HTLA participants. Given the current uncertainty about travel restrictions and holding large gatherings, the HTLA Class 8 fellowship will consist of in-person and virtual attendance (subject to be held virtually only). Please note: Virtual seminars require access to a computer (laptop or desktop) with internet access, Zoom conferencing software, and Google Drive or Microsoft Office.

Funding

All fellows will receive funding for necessary travel expenses, including airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and meals (if applicable). Six positions are prioritized specifically for people with lived experience in human trafficking who do not receive federal or state funding for their work; these individuals are eligible for a monthly stipend of $1,500. The remaining positions are dedicated to allied professionals working to address trafficking and related issues that impact youth.

Fellows must participate in each of the five seminars and spend 2—4 hours per week collaborating virtually between seminars.

Diversity

OTIP strives to create diverse HTLA classes of fellows with different experiences, identities, and perspectives. We seek to include people with lived experience in labor and sex trafficking and individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, and nationalities.
