Children's Bureau Releases Report on Child Maltreatment

The Children's Bureau, an office of the Administration for Children and Families, has released the report Child Maltreatment 2018 (PDF). This is the 29th edition of the annual report. States provide data for the report through the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS).

  • In FY 2018, 27 states reported 741 unique victims of sex trafficking.
  • The majority (89.1 percent) of victims of sex trafficking are female; 10.4 percent are male.
  • For both sexes, the largest percentages for victims of sex trafficking are in the age group 14–17 (71.9 percent).
  • The majority of sex trafficking victims are White (41.6 percent), African-American (23.5 percent), and Hispanic (19.3 percent).
