The White House Gender Policy Council has released its first progress report on efforts to implement priorities in the National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality (PDF) (Strategy), highlighting steps federal agencies are taking to support the rights of women and girls across the United States and throughout the world.
First released in October 2021, the Strategy identifies ten interconnected priorities to address gender discrimination and systemic barriers that women and girls experience, ranging from economic security and education to climate change and immigration. The Strategy outlines specific actions on the intersection of human trafficking and gender-based violence, including amplifying efforts to identify and provide services to people who have experienced trafficking and implementing trauma-informed training for frontline professionals interacting with this population. Learn more about the Strategy’s actions on human trafficking.
The progress report discusses actions that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is taking to build protective factors and address the root causes that increase vulnerability to human trafficking. HHS actions include protecting emergency medical care, ensuring non-discrimination in health care, and supporting access to health care for LGBTQI+ youth. Other federal agencies are supporting access to good jobs, advancing workplace protections, and ensuring access to education free from discrimination.
