The National Human Trafficking Training & Technical Assistance Center prepared literature reviews to support the work of the National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Youth in the United States.

  • Summary of the Research and Recommendations for the Field (PDF): This literature review provides the Committee with an overview of the literature on sex trafficking of children and youth in the United States that can be used to:
    • Make recommendations for administrative or legislative changes necessary to use programs, properties, or other resources owned, operated, or funded by the federal government to provide safe housing for children and youth who have experienced of sex trafficking
    • Share best practices and recommendations with state governors and child welfare agencies and others who work with children and youth who have experienced sex trafficking (P.L. 113-183)
       
  • Systems of Care (PDF): Since 2000, the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act, also known as the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), and its reauthorizations have led to the increase in federal, state, and community anti-trafficking efforts in the United States. The TVPA includes provisions for prosecuting traffickers, preventing trafficking, and establishing protections for individuals who have been trafficked. Yet, there is ongoing need to expand knowledge of and services to youth who have been trafficked (Fong & Cardoso, 2010). One opportunity to better understand how to assist youth victims of trafficking is to acknowledge the “systems of care approach” that has served various youth populations in the United States since the 1970s.
