Jointly provided by Postgraduate Institute for Medicine, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center in collaboration with the Administration for Children and Families, Office on Trafficking in Persons and Office on Women’s Health.

SOAR Online is a new series of CE/CME training modules that you can complete whenever, wherever you like. Each module discusses the SOAR framework and how to apply it where you work to identify individuals who are at risk or who have been trafficked and connect them with the resources they need.

SOAR Online is designed to educate health care providers, social workers, public health professionals, and behavioral health professionals on how to identify, treat, and respond appropriately to individuals who are at risk or who have been trafficked. The target audience includes physicians, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, registered nurses, dentists, psychologists, social workers, case managers, school counselors, public health professionals, health education specialists, and allied health professionals.

Available SOAR Online Modules

  • SOAR to Health and Wellness Online Module

    The SOAR framework is a trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically appropriate response to human trafficking. It provides a quick mental reference for professionals to keep in mind the best way to help individuals who are at risk or have been trafficked.

    After completing the SOAR to Health and Wellness Online module, learners will be able to:

    • Describe the types of human trafficking in the United States
    • Recognize possible indicators of human trafficking
    • Screen and identify individuals who have been trafficked
    • Assess the needs of individuals who have been trafficked and deliver appropriate services
    • Share the importance of human trafficking awareness and responsiveness with others in your work environment 

    This module will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

    Credits Available

    Physicians – maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™
    Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technicians – 1.0 contact hour (0.10 CEUs)
    Psychologists – 1.0 CE credit
    Nurses – 1.0 contact hour
    Dentists - 1.0 CE credit
    Public Health Professionals: 1.0 CPH credit
    Health Education Specialists: 1.0 entry-level CECH

  • Trauma-Informed Care Module

    Anyone can experience trauma. Individuals who have experienced human trafficking have often experienced trauma repeatedly and cumulatively over Anyone can experience trauma. Individuals who have been trafficked have often experienced trauma repeatedly and cumulatively over their lives. In this module, we discuss how to recognize the signs of trauma and deliver trauma-informed care to your patients and clients.

    After completing the Trauma-Informed Care module, learners will be able to:

    • Recognize the signs of trauma exposure which individuals who have been trafficked may present
    • Describe the impact trauma can have on individuals who have been trafficked
    • Define trauma-informed care
    • Identify basic trauma-informed interventions
    • Apply a trauma-informed approach to working with individuals who have been trafficked

    This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

    Credits Available

    Physicians – maximum of 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™
    Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technicians – 0.5 contact hour (.05 CEUs)
    Nurses – 0.5 contact hour
    Dentists - 0.5 CE credit

  • Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services Module

    Individuals who have experienced human trafficking come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and speak many different languages. In order to work with such a diverse population, it’s important to use culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

    After completing the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services module, learners will be able to:

    • Define health equity and describe how culture and language are related to health inequities and health disparities that affect health equity
    • Identify characteristics of cultural and linguistic competence and the impact of each on health equity
    • Apply Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards and exhibit cultural awareness when interacting with individuals who have been trafficked

    This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

If You Want Continuing Education Credit

To see types and amounts of credit available, check the modules listed above. Complete accreditation information are included in each module.

  • Participants must have registered online at https://gm1.geolearning.com/geonext/nhttac/login.geo#.
  • Participants must read the learning objectives and planner disclosures and study the entire educational activity.
  • Participants must complete the post-test with a score of 75% or better and the activity evaluation form.
  • ACPE: Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians must provide their NABP ePID and date of birth in MM/DD format to receive credit.

Request for Credit

A statement of credit will be issued only upon completing the post-test with a score of 75% or better and the activity evaluation along with meeting the requirements as outlined. At the end of each module, you will be provided an acknowledgment of your participation along with instructions on how to obtain your official statement of credit.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Confidential information will only be disclosed as it is required under Federal, state, and local human subjects laws and regulations. Personal identifiers will not be collected to evaluate any SOAR Online module. Usernames are never associated with the evaluation data. Evaluation findings are stored within the learning management system in an account accessible only by the evaluation team members with a username and password. All data will be aggregated and/or presented as themes and no personal identifiable information will be reported.

Requirements & Disclosures

  • Technical Requirements for SOAR Online

    SOAR Online is an Internet-based, online training. You will need a computer that has Internet access to complete each module. SOAR Online can be used with a MAC or PC. We recommend using the most recent version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer version 9 or higher. Some features and functionality may not work in browsers that have not been updated. Specific hardware/software requirements include:

    • Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP SP22
    • Processor: 550 MHz or faster (1.2 GHz or faster recommended)
    • 256 MB or greater
    • Sound Card: 16-bit sound card with speakers or headphones
    • Monitor: 1024 x 768 minimum resolution (or higher recommended) with 16-bit color depth
    • Network Connection: High-speed Internet access
    • Supported browsers:
      • Internet Explorer (supported version is 9.0 and above)
      • Mozilla Firefox (supported version is 4.0 and above)
      • Safari on Mac (supported version is 5.0 and above)
