New Foreign Reciprocating Country – Prince Edward Island, Canada
DCL-13-04
DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER
DCL-13-04
DATE: February 14, 2013
TO: ALL STATE IV-D DIRECTORS
RE: New Foreign Reciprocating Country — Prince Edward Island, Canada
Dear Colleague:
I am pleased to announce a new federal-level international reciprocity agreement for child support with Prince Edward Island, Canada (PEI). PEI has been declared a “foreign reciprocating country” or FRC for child support enforcement purposes by the United States, pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 659A.
According to the terms of the agreement, state IV-D agencies should now treat requests for services from PEI as they would requests from any other U.S. state or FRC. States can expect a similar level of service on outgoing requests to PEI.
For information about PEI and the reciprocal agreement, please refer to the Canada page on the OCSE international website. We are currently revising the Caseworker’s Guide to Processing Cases with Canada (OCSE-IM-11-03) to include PEI-specific forms and policy information. We will let you know as soon as the updated guidance is available.
