ABSTRACT
The Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (WIB)—through its fiscal agent, the Buffalo and Erie County Workforce Development Consortium, Inc., in collaboration with employer partners Kaleida Health, Catholic Health System, McGuire Group, Greater Buffalo United Accountable Network, and 1199 Service Employees International Union—and its training partners, including the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Education Services and Erie Community College, continue the successful HPOG Buffalo training program, which prepares individuals for demand-driven employment in healthcare jobs offering advancement opportunities and career ladders. This collaboration allows for the delivery of results-oriented services to TANF recipients and low-income adults.
Occupations for which participants are trained include: Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Coder, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Secretary, Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker, Physical Therapy Assistant, Registered Nurse/BSN, Surgical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician, Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist, Radiologic Technologist, Direct Support Professional, Phlebotomist, and Dental Assistant. Supportive services include childcare, travel allowance, and emergency funding. If other supports are needed, HPOG Buffalo assists participants to obtain these. The WIB oversees the HPOG Buffalo program and is a consistent supporter of the program.
The New York State Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship is very supportive of Buffalo’s HPOG program.
