ABSTRACT
CCCC has developed a successful model for providing a career pathway approach to healthcare training that leads to well-paying, sustainable employment for low-income individuals and Native Americans.
This project builds on partnerships with state and tribal TANF programs and a range of employers to develop a sustainable infrastructure for continued educational and job retention strategies. Support services include childcare, transportation assistance, tutoring, and educational supplies (uniforms, shoes, stethoscopes, fees for licensing to ensure that participants are successful in completing training, and laptops to enable students to participate in virtual training).
Training is provided for the following occupations: Healthcare Social Worker, Social and Human Service Assistant, Dietitian, Nutritionist, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Medical and Clinical Technicians, Radiologic Technicians, EKG Technician, EMT, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Surgical Technician, Renal Analysis Technician, LPN, Medical Insurance Coder, Medical Records/Health Information Technology, Nursing Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Medical Receptionist/Information Clerk, and Medical Office Clerk/Secretary/Specialist. Relationships have been developed with the Tribal Directors on the Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Nation, and Ft. Berthold reservations to develop co-enrollment for tribal TANF. CCCC has positive working relationships with the state Department of Human Services and with the Workforce Investment Board in North Dakota. Job Service ND is the administering and fiscal agent for Workforce Investment Programs and has partnered with CCCC on a number of initiatives; this relationship continues to strengthen. CCCC has a standing letter of support from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship and is currently formalizing plans to establish a recognized LPN apprenticeship program, which would be the first in the state.
*This second round of grant awards has been extended an additional 12 months, ending September 29, 2021.
