ABSTRACT
Goodwill® Industries of the Valleys, Inc. (Goodwill), on behalf of a multiagency/multijurisdictional collaborative in Virginia, operates the GoodCare Career Pathways Program (GoodCare). GoodCare is a three-part behavioral change model designed to integrate supportive, educational, and workplace services in healthcare training. GoodCare provides supportive services, education, training, and employment for occupations in three healthcare tracks: nursing, health information, and healthcare support. Occupations trained for include: Medical and Health Service Manager, Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, Licensed Practical and Vocational Nurse, Medical Insurance Coder, Medical Records and Health Information Technician, Home Health Aide, Certified Nurse Assistant, Medication/ Technician Aide, Clinical Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Personal Care Aide, First-Line Supervisor of Office and Administrative Support Worker, Medical Receptionist and Information Clerk, and Medical Office Clerk/Secretary/Specialist.
The supportive services offered include medical exams, immunizations, drug screens, and tuberculosis testing required by an occupation skills training program; eye exams, glasses, and contacts; childcare assistance; emergency food assistance; transportation assistance and minor car repairs; rent or mortgage assistance and utility payments; and work attire. Program partners include Department of Social Services agencies, adult education and literacy providers, community colleges, and local employers. Goodwill makes monthly presentations to staff and partners with the Virginia Career Works Centers.
