ABSTRACT
Eugenio María de Hostos Community College (HCC) of the City University of New York operates an allied health career job training program at the Hostos South Bronx main campus and its satellite campus in northern Manhattan. The HPOG Allied Health Career Pipeline Program provides training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Health Information Technician, Phlebotomy, Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, Community Health Workers, Home Health Aides, and Contact Tracer.
All participants receive work readiness training in essential soft skills for the health profession work environment and have access to a variety of support services such as case management, transportation assistance, referral services for food and housing, textbooks, licensure examination fees, and childcare expenses. Students also receive job search assistance, interview opportunities with employers, and employment coaching and advisement, including new hire clearance and onboarding procedures. Hostos Community College is a New York State registered apprentice for Community Health Workers (CHWs). Seven students completed the CHW Apprenticeship Training in January 2020.
