ACF Assistant Secretary Contreras shares updates and highlights on ACF's commitment to behavioral health.

In support of ACF’s mission and strategic plan, ACF has developed a set of materials intended for specific subgroups of program participants, prospective participants, and their communities to help them understand the array of programs and resources that may be able to assist them. 

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, which is a good time to highlight the importance of mental health and how essential it is to overall well-being. As part of our efforts to raise awareness, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration for Children, Youth and Families, Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB); the Office of Minority Health (OMH); and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are pleased to release this joint letter, which shares our commitment to highlighting critical resources to support the mental health of youth of color experiencing homelessness and other youth populations critically in need of services and supports.  

Supporting the mental health of people of all ages, and especially youth, is a priority for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). This week, we invite you to join us as we partner with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to deliver another virtual training today, Wednesday, July 19, from 6 — 7 p.m. ET. This training is designed for parents and caregivers to learn more about resources available to support children and youth experiencing anxiety and depression. Attendees can gain skills to effectively recognize and respond to children and youth managing anxiety and depression and receive an overview of resources available to support parents and caregivers. The training is co-designed with and informed by youth, parents, and caregivers and will feature discussions from youth and parent leaders.
